The Benefits of a Craft Activity Kit

Whether you make your own or you buy one, it's always a good idea to have as many of your arts and craft materials in one place. The Chadwick Ultimate Activity Kit gives you a great start. It comes in an A3 plastic case for easy transporting. Because it is A3 size you can also use it to keep your art work safe. If you make your own craft activity kit it's always best to start with an A3 size carrying case as A4 size probably would not be big enough.

The most important item in the kit is something to create upon - either paper or card - or better still a combination of both paper and card. As well as plain white it's always a good idea to have a mixture of colours as these will add contrast to your children's craft ideas.

Colouring pens are probably the next most important thing so that your children can draw out what they want. Stencils are also useful, especially if your child isn't that artistic. With a bit of practice and patience, stencils allow any child to create beautiful shapes.

Plastic scissors are also useful for your child to cut the coloured paper and card up, but even better would be pre-cut gummed shapes and stickers. You can get animal shapes or simple geometric shapes. Your children can add a third dimension to their art works by building up the shapes on top of each other.

Of course glue is vital for the things most children like best - buttons, stars and sequins. Along with pipe cleaners these can make a good art work great. Bits of tissue paper or crepe paper can really look good as well. Working with small fiddly objects can really improve your child's concentration.

Once you have the basics, you can go even further by adding things like pom poms, holographic paper and fluorescent shapes. Foil stickers and metallic card can also work wonders. Foam shapes are also great for three dimensional works of art.

As well as normal art works for display, your children could create their own cards. It's easy to find blank cards and envelopes. Just one reminder - make sure you have bigger envelopes if your child is making a 3D card. You also need to watch out for postage in the UK as prices have gone up for anything that's thicker than 5mm.

Once you have a craft activity kit, you can use it at home to store all your art and craft materials in one place. If your children know where they should store something they are more likely to tidy up after themselves. It's always useful to keep packets, especially for the small items, such as sequins and stars as they will get lost easily.

The activity kit can also be used on journeys and away from home. Because it's lightweight it's easy to carry about. On a journey, it will make time fly by. If you're in an unfamiliar place, it's always useful to rely on a craft activity kit to entertain your children, especially if the weather turns against you. Even at home, your children will have hours of fun if it's raining outside and it's much easier to have everything in one place.

Here is a list of some of the best items to have in a Craft Activity Kit:

A3 Plastic Carrying case
Coloured Paper
Coloured Card
White Paper
White Card
Colouring Pens
Stickers and Pre-Gummed Shapes
Stencils
Plastic Scissors

Princess Craft Projects and Kits For Girls

Princess craft projects and kits are my favorite girls activity. I use them at a girls birthday party or at my kitchen table on rainy or snowy days when the kids cannot go outside and play. Kids arts and crafts projects get your child's imagination flowing and you will be surprised at some of the wonderful ideas and designs they come up with.

Here you will find the descriptions of several princess crafts that come in a kit form. Of course, if you take a look at these kits you can figure out what supplies you will need to make your own kit. When I am feeling particularly crafty I gather my own supplies. When I am rushed, or find a great sale where the craft kits are cheap, I buy them. Most of these kits I am talking about come in their own individual packages, so if it makes 12 of the craft project, you will get 12 individual packages. This way you can save the extras or send them home as a party favor.

The first fun princess craft project is making a Precious Princess Photo Frame. This is a kit with enough supplies to make 12 photo frames. These pretty frames come with lots of pastel colored stickers to decorate them with. You have to add your own photos. There is a second craft kit that makes photo frames, but the second kit is made out of foam. You get shapes like princess, a crown and a castle. These are very cute and look more sturdy than the first batch. Although they look cute too.

There is are some Foam Princess Hat Craft Kits. In each of these kits you will find the hennin, a tall or cone shaped hat worn in medieval times. You can hang a piece of cloth or netting that you get in the kit from it so it has a flowing look to it. It also comes with some royal stickers to decorate each hat with.

The fourth of our Princess craft project kits is a Foam Tiara kit. Again you get some foam adhesive stickers to decorate each of the tiaras with. You will get some pretty imaginative looking tiaras from some of the kids at your craft table! And your daughter and her friends will all look like real princesses when they wear these tiaras.

Here is one of my favorite craft projects. It is a Crown Sand Art kit. You get 24 crown templates. There are 6 different designs and you get four of each one. You also get packages of sand. The tops of the crowns are adhesive or you get some glue...then you color in each of the crowns using packs of colored sand. These are so much fun to make and look great when you are done. You also get lots so the fun can go on and on.

How about making a Glittering Fairy Wand? You can find a craft kit that comes with the supplies you need to make 12 magic wands. Each of the 12 kits comes with a 12" wooden dowel and star shaped foam cutouts. You will have to supply the glue to attach the stars to the wooden sticks. Add some glitter to make your wand sparkle!

There is a Renaissance Princess Jeweled Crown kit too. This bright yellow foam crown can be decorated with self adhesive jewels or lots of glitter to make them as regal as can be.

The last of the princess craft projects is the Princess Paper Dolls And Stickers Kit. You get 12 cardboard princess dolls and over 100 stickers for each doll. Use these stickers to decorate and clothe these fun paper dolls. Paper dolls used to be my favorite toy when I was a young girl, I bet your daughter will have fun with this collection too.

Such Good Boys by Tina Dirmann

Such Good Boys is the true crime story of a 20 year old college student who endured verbal and psychological abuse by his emotionally disturbed mother. On the night of January 14, 2003, this same college student,with the help of his younger brother who also suffered abuse but to a lesser extent,strangled this mother. To avoid authorities being able to identify her body, he chopped off her head and hands.

This book will make you believe in the saying "you reap what you sow" and as a mother this book has put some more doubts and worries into my mind as to whether I am raising my children properly.This is what I love about true crime books.Because the stories are real life stories,true crime books provide an insight into what can go wrong,what you can do to avoid certain situations and much much more.True crime authors have to be especially gifted at writing these books as the climax of a true crime story has already happened.You know before you start reading who murdered who.These true crime authors do not have the advantage of keeping their readers enthralled with the prospect of finding out what happens in the end.So they have to be really talented to keep you reading and in my opinion most of them are.But not just anyone can become a true crime writer.

Tina Dirmann tells this story exactly like it is.There are no added frills. It is straight forward and factual and I personally love this style of writing. This books starts with a very brief chapter on how the body is discovered and then goes back in time to detail the events in the two boys' lives until they eventually murder their mother.

I do not believe in physical punishment of children so it follows then that I absolutely hate any form of abuse against children so I was unable to muster any sympathy for the murder victim.

I do believe that more should have been done by neighbors and friends. A little bit of interference could have gone a long way to changing the outcome of this story. Many people are reluctant to report abuse as they feel they are involving themselves in matters that are internal and private to another family. As a mother I would like my neighbors to report any abuse they might see in my home. What if I have a mental disease and cannot see what I am doing wrong? As a mother I would want my childrens' needs to come first and for them to be protected. The murder victim was definitely suffering from some kind of mental breakdown and in that state of mind was incapable of distinguishing between right and wrong. The people close to the family should have done something.

To sum up the book, it is well written and any mother will feel an emotional tug at her heart when reading this book. You will be faced once more by the enormous responsibilities laid at our door once we become a parent and hopefully in most cases we can congratulate ourselves on maybe not a perfect job in raising our children but in the fact that we are doing our very best and hopefully that this very best is good enough for our kids.

Craft Work Talent

Craft work is so unique and unlimited that all the information that will be given to you would be just a few drops of this great sea. If we pierce into this beautiful field you'll be surprised and amazed that we are directly or indirectly involved in this art. Grandma Knitting cozy and sweet sweaters and so many things for tiny tots and even elders to give warmth in cold winters.

Embroidery is a talent which can make any ordinary textile or fabric into an haute couture. Paintings, dresses, hand looms and so many more items are made attractive with the touch of needle and thread.

Stitching- don't just stuck for this word with only dress by a regular tailor. A talented artist and skilled craft men can create wonders with a fabric, thread, machine, needle and ample variety of different craft materials like- beads, pipes, flowers, logos, patches, stones, ribbons,etc.

People in India, China, Indonesia and other places make beautiful fabrics using the talent of stitching and embroidery in different patterns that are unique to their region. I remember my school days... where we learn t making so many unbelievable showpieces by using the obsoletes. There you are---the always appreciated 'Best out of Waste'. With this everlasting and amazing talent of art we can make puppets, wall paintings, pots, coasters, toys and so many more unlimited items.

The oldest and still marking its footprints in the richest and modest world of designer's dream is the art of pottery. A wet, soft, cleaned dark Grey or yellow ocher colored soil when placed on the rotating wheel is ready for the talented hands of a potter to perform the magic of making unexpected pottery items like-mugs, cups, vases, pots etc. which we commonly use in our day to day life.

But, the real talent never needs any manual or motor machine to prove itself and so do the miraculous soil....when it goes in the magic hands of a craftsmen whose talent is god gifted or/and skilled with hard-work and practice, the soil acts as a wand creating items like birds, animals, human figures, god statues and so many beautiful pieces of work...

Let my share my knowledge and experience with you...

Once I used the beans and grains from my kitchen to make a wall painting depicting a flower vase; a girl sitting with her face bend and a scene of a park. Pulses were used to be filled sequentially in a triangular shaped bottle. It turned out to be the master piece which is priceless. Wonderful greetings also can be designed using mini objects like beads, threads and even part of dry fruits are also used.

Craft work is not only the talent of famous painters and sculptors whom artwork are displayed in the museum, but the non-famous people who carries on the tradition of their ancestors are equally or even sometimes more talented than those people. This real talent of craft and art by common people is called 'folk art'. They can be anybody-a shepherd, farmer, trader or even you. For instance- European sailors carved beautiful scrimshaw by using whalebone or ivory as a surface for carvings; In many countries of Asia, America and Africa folk arts and craftspeople are supported to sell their work in and even outside the country and make a living for them through their talent.

These folk artists make useful things like furniture, toys, jewelery, clothes, weapons, household items and etc. Materials like wire, wood and natural fibers are used to craft the objects. Even food items are used in this art. Every region of the world has produced the folk art in their unique styles. Folk art in anyway reflects the tradition and religious beliefs and also the superstitious of a society.

In Mexico- in one of their traditional festival, sugar is used to form statues like skeletons and angels. These tasty art work are served as toys before they are eaten.

The Korean head wear are of great importance in the traditional dress up.

Let it be GULLE DAENGGI- the one worn by young girls had the purpose of tying the hair; JABAWI-it is soft and warm, worn by old times ladies and is made of black satin;
HWAGWAN-worn in old times by royal women during ceremonies;
HOGEON-it is a hood worn by young boys and designed in a way to give the appearance of a tiger;
TANGGEON-it is made of woven horsehair worn by gentry males in old times;
HEUKLIP-a commonly worn hat worn by gentry males in old times;
JEONMO-it's a durable hat made of paper soaked in oil and worn by females of all age group to shade themselves from sun;
JEONGJAGWAN-made of horsehair and worn by gentry males at home in old times;
JOKDURI-made of black silk and decorated with stones. It is worn by women in ceremonies in old days;
AYAM-it is a winter cap made of black silk decorated with stones and worn by young women in old days;
NAMBAWI-it is the winter cap with fur for warmth and beauty and worn by both men and women in old days.

Craft work using PLASTIC have appeared on the horizon for many years. It is such a versatile substance that you can manufacture wide range of objects from useful items to showbuzzs. It is correctly or you can say chemically known as polyester resin.

One of the best example of craft work are the Fire or pipe bags of native America. They are made from buckskin and have long fringing at the bottom. These bags are decorated with beads, paint, horse hair, ribbon etc. These bags were popular more in late 19th and early 20th century.

Well, I hope the brief knowledge about art and craft excited you to get informed about the craft work of great INDIA.

Looking For a Craft or Hobby? - 10 Ideas to Start You Off

Many people find that they have time on their hands all of a sudden - perhaps the children are now at school, or have grown up and left the house. Perhaps you find that you have more spare time and are looking for a hobby that could possibly make you some income. For whatever reason you are looking, there are plenty of places to find ideas that will spark your creativity and enthusiasm.

If you want to browse from the comfort of your own home then look no further than online and you will find plenty of ideas to get you thinking. How about any of the following art or craft hobbies?

Painting
Drawing
Beading
Scrapbooking
Pottery
Felting
Knitting
Decoupage
Paper Crafts
Dressmaking

Many, if not all, of these crafts require little previous experience. You can often find beginners classes in all of these crafts at your local school or adult education center. Browse through the local newspapers and you might find classified ads from people offering private tuition in these arts and crafts. Alternatively, you can do these crafts from the comfort of your own home when you have the time, and there are plenty of resources available to teach you.

You may have previous experience of some of these hobby ideas from your school days, for example, did you do art at school, enjoy it, but never took it any further from there? When not brush up on your painting and drawing skills and have another go, maybe using different mediums this time? Perhaps you have always had a passion to be able to draw your friends or relatives or even to make up your own comics?

Or you could try something completely new. Have you ever tried knitting or crochet? Have you got lots of memories that you would like to keep in a scrapbook for your kids to cherish when they are older?

Think of the types of thing you like doing - for example, do fiddly things frustrate you or do you relish the challenge? How much time do you have to spend on your new craft hobby? Would you want to make some money out of it once you are good enough? All these things could lead you to a new hobby that will fill your time, bring you joy and maybe even make some extra cash.

Activities That Can Increase a Full Grown Adults' Height Over Time

A lot of people assume that just because they have stopped growing, that it is no longer possible to increase your height. To clear up this myth, I would like to state that it is actually possible to get taller even after you are done growing.

While Yes, most peoples' bones stop growing around age 18, there are still some natural things we can do to make us taller. These techniques and activities actually make you taller, however you need to work hard to develop the aspects that aid to make you taller.

Martial Arts - Kung Fu

Martial arts that focus on postures work great to increase your height over time. I have taken Kung Fu for roughly 4 years now, and I have noticed that my height has increased almost an inch since when I first started. This is because I am more aware of my posture and what proper posture actually is. The Kung Fu also works to develop strength used for keeping you upright. This helps to make you stand taller when developed. Another good martial art for this is Karate because it also has emphasis on posture.

Yoga

I have read in forums that people are having success with getting taller by practicing Yoga. However, you need to practice for at least a year before you will notice anything as far as height increase is concerned.

Stretches and exercises that directly increase height

If you are looking for a faster solution that will increase your height by up to 2 inches, there are some great stretches and exercises that we can do. These include the Scorpion Tail stretch and the Standing Pencil Stretch. These work to increase the space between each vertebrea in the spinal column. After you increase the space, your body will fill the space with extra joint cartilage which will also reduce back problems later on in life. There are many other stretches that are made specifically to help develop your height and posture.

While there are plenty of ways you can increase your height, my favorites are the free and natural ones. I think they work the best, however for you to get the full benefit with these, you need to WORK HARD on these stretches. Im not talking doing it a couple minutes a day for a month. Expect to spend 15-20 minutes a day for 2 to 3 months to get decent results. If it were really easy to grow taller, everyone would be doing it. If you stay motivated and have a real desire to get taller, you will have no problem at all!

An American Soldier

Is it Really Art? Understanding the Art Vs Craft Debate

My personal experience produces no argument with highly respected Dictionaries and Reference works describing CRAFT as an ART form...and ART as a CRAFT(if in doubt, please check this out with your own personal information/learning sources).

I embrace, with complete affinity, the belief that crafting requires skill, dexterity, proficiency and ingenuity -- to become a member of the 'family of artistic practices within the decorative arts'.

A definition I like, found in Wikipedia:-

'A CRAFT is a skill, especially involving practical ARTS. It may refer to a trade or particular ART.'

As a craftsperson dedicated to a continuing quest for improvement and expansion of my creativity, there is no doubt in my mind I am an artisan (or a person 'skilled in an applied art; a craftsperson.').
From humble beginnings, learning knitting from my Mother and teaching myself to crochet, initially I utilised these skills to produce items for myself, family and friends. Over the years this has progressed through various selling venues to this moment in time, where I am attempting internet marketing of my creations.

Whether these are handcrafts, or my other passion, writing -- the principles stated in my Introduction above, apply equally, egg:

Skill -- an ability, sometimes innate, or inborn to your essential character; sometimes developed from knowledge and practice -- in my case, I think both. There have been some talented crafts persons in my heredity...and I have worked hard at development for a long time.

Dexterity -- for me, is both ease and expertise in using my hands, together with a goodly measure of mental agility.

Proficiency -- of course, competency in performance; developing an increasing degree of expertise; and experiencing a feeling of accomplishment that an item has been produced to the best of your current ability.

Ingenuity -- a preparedness to think laterally through conception and creation; to design and produce each individual craft piece with flair and inventiveness; to imaginatively use materials at hand to fashion something new and appealing.

And let us not forget -- Integrity -- a word that often feels as obsolete as dinosaurs in this rapidly changing world and its attitudes. Integrity has an incredible number of definitions -- but all point to such principles as honesty, morality, unity and honour. And Integrity is what I and every other true artisan bring to our creative pursuits - to make our CRAFT be unequivocally classified as ART.

There are opponents of this view who insist that true ART is -- painting, drawings, music, dance, poetry, sculpture -- even architecture and languages can be accommodated under this 'umbrella'. All forms are apparently believed to require and utilise a higher level of skill and artistry than CRAFT.

Others speak of aesthetics and skilful creation; 'internal appreciation of balance and harmony'; mastery of a medium; communication and imaginative expression; 'a class of objects subject to aesthetic criteria'; and from ancient times, having ritualistic and symbolic functions and meanings.

The suggestion appears to be that these ideals apply only to ART...not CRAFT.

When any craftsperson brings the highest degree of dedication, integrity and commitment to their work, together with skill and attention to detail in each creative pursuit...this is surely the hallmark of artisanship.

I find nothing in the criteria suggested for the creation of ART to be anything less than one should demand in the creation of a CRAFT item. Every descriptive definition seems to epitomize the highest ideals of dedicated craft workers.

For me -- CRAFT is ART-- there is simply no question to debate.

Everyone, of course, is entitled to their own personal opinion...SO... what do YOU think now?

Is it Really ART?
